Henry VIII before the changes in religion in Europe Good Roman Catholic. He was even given a title of "Defender of the Faith" by the pope.
Reasons for the changes Henry VIII wanted to divorce her current wife, but the pope would disapprove his desire, so he broke away from the pope in 1534.
Who was her current wife and why did she want to divorce her? Her wife was Catherine of Aragon. She wanted to divorce her because she had not given him a son to inherit the throne and was to old to have any more childs.
The changes after braking with the pope -Henry became the head of the English Church -He married his new wife thanks to his archbishop
Who was his new wife? Anne Boleyn
What did Anne Boleyn have and who was him/her? Another daughter, Elizabeth.
What would happen to anyone who thought that Henry was wrong? Example? He/she would be executed. This was the case of Sir Thomas More, an old friend of Henry
What did he change Henry changge after that? He closed all monasteries and nunneries between 1536 and 1539. The land, buildings and goods all came to the king.
Who adviced him with that decision? Thomas Cromwell, his main minister.
What reasons did he have for the change he did? -He was short of money and in closing the monasteries he could seize their wealth. -All 10 000 monks and nuns were supposed to be loyal to the pope. -Henry said that all the religious houses were not doing their job properly.
Consequences of the change and when 1536 - 1539: Religious houses closed and 10 000 monks were sent away.
Reaction of England and when 1536: The people made a rebellion: the Pilgrims of Grace.
What the rebellion asked the king 1)To destroy the new ideas of Luther that had been accepted in England. 2)To restore the power of the pope. 3)To re-open the already closed-down religious houses. 4)To punish Cromwell
Henry's reaction He was angry. He: -Called them "rebels" -Hung and executed great number of them
