What are the 4 organizational principles? Discipline, Unity of Command, Span of Control, Division of Labor
Define discipline Refers to an organizations responsibility to provide the direction needed to satisfy goals and objectives of the organization. It is defined within SOPs and SOGs
Define Unity of Command Pathway of responsibility from highest level to the lowest level of the department. A person can only report to one officer and indirectly everyone reports to the Chief.
Span of Control The number one individual can effectively manage. 3-7 Firefighters or functional units.
Division of Labor Dividing of large operations into smaller manageable tasks.
Division of labor is necessary for (4 points): - Safety and accountability - Prevent duplication of effort - Define specific and clear cut assignments - To assign responsibility for the tasks outlined
