The tips of his ears remain blonde. Since he was a cub, he's had a nervous habit of sticking out his tongue
Bear #813 “Nostril Bear” 813 is an average-sized female bear. In July, she has brown, evenly colored fur that can sometimes be ragged in appearance. In the fall, her fur is also brown but appears less ragged. Her most distinctive feature is her oddly shaped nostrils. Also, in 2018 she appeared to have injured the left side of her face, leading her left ear to be permanently floppy
Bear #820 “Wallflower “ Early in the season 820's body is blonde and he has dark circles around his eyes. In fall he turns brown, but his ears remain blonde. 820's most notable feature is his large head and double chin. In 2021 151 took a bite out of 820's backside in a sneak attack, and he now has a scar above his tailhead. 820's favorite fishing spot is on the far wall at the falls, hence his nickname "Wallflower."
Bear #821 “Pepper” (504’s 2015 male offspring) 821 starts the season with a light brown coat that darkens by fall. He has a skinny tapered muzzle, large round ears, and lacks a prominent brow. He also has a large scar on his right hip from a wound he received in the fall of 2017 821's motto is "Why stand when you can sit, and why sit when you can lie down." 821 frequents both the lower river and falls. When he took up fishing the lip 2018, he discovered that sitting was an energy saver. While on the lip he also likes to perform what could best be described as the bear version of Tai Chi. He will also sometimes repeat those movements on the lower river.
Bear #831 “Salt” “Lpointy” (504’s 2015 female offspring) 831 starts the season with a light reddish coat that darkens by fall into a medium reddish brown. She has a skinny tapered muzzle, blonde tipped ears, and lacks a prominent brow. She has a semi-prominent hump and a half moon scar on the upper part of her back left leg. You will only find 831 on the lower river. Why she's never ventured upstream is a bit of a mystery. 831 is a gregarious and sometimes goofy girl. She will enter the water by standing upright and walking straight in or even by stepping in backwards. She also has a tendency to toss her head.
Bear #854 “Divot” 854 is medium-sized female. She has a golden-blond coat in July which darkens by late August to brown. Her muzzle is short and straight. In July, 854 often has a noticeable shed patch on her forehead. Her most distinctive feature is a circular scar around her neck from a wire snare that was removed in July 2014 (see Life History section below). This scar, however, can sometimes be hard to see
Bear #856 A very large adult male with a uniformly brown coat and light-brown ears. He has a rounded forehead like a chihuahua. In early summer, he has a noticeable stripe of thin fur running from his head to his back and numerous scars and wounds are visible on his head and neck. Behaviorally, he is quite bold and assertive toward other bears
Bear #879 “Boarse” (bear-horse) 879 is a large, tall bear with a brown coat. His long straight muzzle, long neck, broad back, and tall upright ears give him an equine look. In 2019 he returned with a wonky left ear. He is a late summer/fall bear who fishes the falls and lower river
Bear #901 (284 “Electra’s” 2016 female offspring) 901 has a sturdy build and pretty face like her mother. Her most striking features are her long, triangular shaped, angled-back ears and her light t-shirt/crop top markings around her upper legs, neck, and midriff. She also has a white patch on her right shoulder. In early summer she is light too medium blonde and darkens to a medium brown by fall. In fall the white spot on the inside of her upper left leg remains and is a good way to ID her
Bear #902 “Peanut” (128 “Grazer’s” 2016 female offspring) Like her mother, 902 has a light blonde coat and bright white ears. I think she has a foxy look. Others have described her as poodle-like.
Bear #903 “Gully” (128 “Grazer’s” 2016 male offspring) Mckate's ID Tips: 903 is one of those rare bears who remains blonde throughout the season. He just darkens from light to medium blonde as the season progresses. He is blonder on his head and has white ears. He has long 'bangs' and eyebrows and a straight deep muzzle. In the fall he develops a bear hat or helmet. He likes to sit on the lip and the riffles bank with his head stretched down
Bear #907 (708 “Amelia’s” 2015 male offspring) 907 has long blonde ears that he usually holds back against his head. He has a slightly roman and deep muzzle like his mom. His coat is a solid medium blonde throughout the season. He is slow to shed his winter coat and looks scruffy well into August. Then he looks amazingly smooth. 907 fishes the lip and the j
Bear #908 (708 “Amelia’s” 2015 female offspring) 908 has a straight profile, light blonde triangular ears, and a frowny face. Her coat goes from light to dark blonde over the season. She can often be confused for her niece 901. One trick to tell them apart is to look for 908's blonde chest
Bear #909 (409 “Beadnose’s” 2016 female offspring) 909 has large, wide-set ears that make her look as if she's wearing a white matador's hat. Her muzzle is of average length and slightly upturned and her body is small and curvy. Early in the season her coat is light to medium blonde then turns a dark taupe. In late fall her coat lightens again and takes on grizzled appearance. Her ears remain white all season 909 will fish anywhere on the river, but she seems to be following in the footsteps of her mother who was a legendary lip fisher. She has a habit of crossing her right paw over her chest when fishing the lip
Bear #910 (409 “Beadnose’s” 2016 female offspring) 910 has large wide-set blonde tipped ears and a straight muzzle that turns up slightly at the tip. She starts the season a dark blonde then darkens to uniform brown even losing most of the blonde on her ears. She also starts the season with a goatee. 910 has a bigger frame than her sister 909. 910 fishes all areas of the river including taking an occasional turn on the lip, although is not as dedicated to that spot a her sis, 909. She has a habit of bouncing up on her back legs and throwing her head around when fishing the lip
Bear #911 “Split-Nose” Mike Fitz described 911 as an adult male with short, light brown fur, bald shed patches, and a pit bull-like face in 2018. Based on his size and scars alone we can accurately assume that he’s a mature adult, one who has survived many years of competition with other bears. Upon close inspection of his face, rangers noticed this bear has peculiar looking nostrils. The nostrils appear to have been injured and healed. 911 often has multiple facial scars. 911 prefers to fish the lip of the falls and is very proficient. He stands sideways on the lip and plants his right rear foot on a flat area. This makes his foot appear to curve upward. 911 will also fish right below the falls a bit back from the jacuzzi, often in a sitting position.
Bear #912 (39’s 2016 male offspring) 912 has a long, narrow, slightly roman muzzle, long oval ears, and copper colored head. His side profile is almost anvil-shaped. He starts the season medium brown and is almost black by fall with just a hint of blonde on top of his head. He also has white tipped ears. His long muzzle, neck, and legs give him the look of a thoroughbred. 912 is a serious angler who, like his brothers, fishes the lip, but prefers the J. He will happily share his scraps with others particularly his brother, 99
Bear #913 (39’s 2016 male offspring) 913 is the chunkiest of the three 39 brothers. Early in the season, 913 is blonde with a red head. The fur around his ears is very fluffy, whereas 912 looks more sleek. By August he has darkened into a light brown and has a light cinch mark on his side. 913 has a broad forehead and large round ears. Like his brother, 912, he has a long, narrow slightly Roman muzzle. His, however, is more Roman and turns up slightly at the end. 913 usually takes a while to fully shed, looking very fluffy with irregular patches of shed fur in the early summer While all three of 39's boys fish the lip, 913 is probably the most dedicated. But he can also be found fishing the riffles and socializing on the lower river
Bear #TBA 132F (132’s 2021 female offspring) 132F has dark blonde/light brown fur like her mother. Her side profile is a bit pointy and she has a semi-prominent brow ridge. Her eyes appear close together and she has a small pointed shoulder hump
