Work The physical or mental exertion in order to do, make or accomplish something
Career Way of making a living, often in a profession
Vocation A career which the inidividual feels called to by God
Business A commercial or industrial firm. Sometimes, business refers to the occupation, work or trade in which a person is engaged
Enterprise A project or task that requires boldness or effort and a willingness to try new approaches or actions
Economy The system by which the production, distribution and consumption of goods and services is organised in a country. The generation of wealth through business and industry
Taxation The method by which the government receives an income; for example, from income tax, Value Added Tax (VAT), inheritance tax
Tithes The giving of a tenth of your income to God
Employer A person or firm that employs (hires) workers
Employee A person who works for another in return for wages
Fair wage Appropriate pay for the time, effort and skill given to the job
Code of conduct A set of principles and expectations that are considered binding on any person who is working for the company
Health and Safety Issues concerning the protection of employees
Contract An agreement concerning the responsibilities and conditions of work between employer and employee
Minimum wage The national minimum wage is the lowest hourly rate that it is legal for an employer to pay to employees or workers
Family commitments The need to look after the family
Trade union Organisations that look after the interests of a group of workers
Voluntary work Unpaid work, done willingly without expectation of a reward
Voluntary organisation An organisation that runs through voluntary contributions or voluntary labour
Service The work done by one person or group that benefits another. An act of help or assistance
Sewa (Seva) Selfless service: often refers to voluntary work or work offered to God (Hinduism, Sikhism)
Religious voluntary organisation A religious organisation that operates through voluntary contributions or voluntary labour
Unemployment The state of being without a job, especially involuntarily
