What does DBMS stand for? Database Management System
What is the DBMS? It is a tool to store, edit and organise data
What does the DBMS do? Allows a user to create a database and manage the data Allows user to create forms for easier data entry and reports to provide hard copy snapshots of the data Allows data to be displayed as graphs and charts
Benefits of the DBMS Allows data to be stored in a standard way so that it separates data from the software that created the database Allows it to be accessed by many different client applications
What is the external view of a database? The view of the data used by customers or people who input and view data
What is the conceptual view of a database? The view used by the database designer Shows how all the tables are connected
What is the internal view of the database? Used for the detailed programming of the database Shows how the computer sees the database
Benefits of access levels If anyone could edit the database, data could easily become corrupted Maintains the integrity of the database
