| What is a disciple? | Any person in any century who is a follower of Jesus. This therefore describes many more than just The Twelve. |
| Which pair of disciples (out of the two who Jesus first called) were probably richer, and what evidence is there for this? | James and John. They were probably part of a bigger operation, as their father Zebedee had hired men to help him. But none of the first 4 disciples would have been poor. |

| Why might Jesus have sent The Twelve out on a preaching and healing mission? | He knew that his time was short, and wanted to reach as many people as possible. He sent his disciples out to do exactly what he did: preach the good news about the Kingdom of God, heal people, and cast out demons. |
| Why did Jesus allow his disciples to take only the bare essentials when he sent them out on their mission? | --he wanted them to trust that God would provide for their needs --he wanted them to experience independence, since in the near future they would no longer have Jesus' physical presence to help them |
| Why did Jesus instruct his disciples to shake the dust of their feet as they left if they were rejected by anyone? | Symbolic action to show that those who rejected them would be excluded from the new chosen people, the idea coming from the Jewish custom of shaking foreign dust off their feet as they re-entered Israel. |
| Why is it particularly damning that Peter denied knowledge of Jesus after being recognised by one of the servant girls of the high priest? | A woman's evidence was not valid anyway, even less so the evidence of a servant. |
| According to the history of the early Christian community, what became of Peter after the commission? | Peter became the first pope (bishop of Rome) and died in the Neronian persecutions. |
| What does the 'Kingdom of God' refer to? | God's rule over people. The Kingdom of God was a present reality for some, but also yet to come in the sense that not everyone obeyed God yet. |
| What is the meaning of the parable of the mustard seed? | The small seed is like the small group of 12 disciples and the limited response to Jesus' mission which he received. But he taught that the Kingdom would grow and God's rule would become worldwide. Birds are a Jewish symbol for Gentiles, so this parable shows that the Kingdom offers protection to Gentiles. |
