What is a NIC? Network Interface Controllers/Cards
What is a Network? It is a collection of connected computers plus their peripherals. Each device on a network is called a node.
How is the data represented? In a binary bit pattern
What is a LAN? It is confined to one site, like an office. Connected using equipment owned by the organisation.
What are some advantages to using a LAN Network? Makes sharing possible and convenient. Makes backups easier to do. They are easy to update. ect.......
What Disadvantages for using a LAN? Maintenance is expensive. Network problems may effect all users. Security may be a problem because data is accessible from many places.
What do WAN'S do? It connects LAN'S together. They make use of publicly available telecoms facilities. They allow a business to function from any location.
Where is the NIC plugged in? Into the motherboard.
Define a MAC? Media Access Control
What are cable are LAN'S made of? Copper
Define a UTP Unshielded Twisted Pair
What is this? Fibre-Optic Cable
What are HUB's? They are hardware devices that connect many network devices together.
