COMMA - SERIES When the last member of a series of three or more items is preceded by and or or, place a comma before the conjunction as well as between the other items. Example: I need a secretary to answer the phone, to type letters, and to greet callers.
COMMA - INTRODUCTORY CLAUSE An introductory clause followed by a main clause is separated from the main clause by a comma. An introductory clause is often introduced by words such as if, as, when, though, although, because, and others. EXAMPLES : IF you complete your work before five o'clock, you may leave. If they want to win, athletes must exercise everyday. when I was in barranquilla, I saw the metropolitan stadium.
COMMA - CONJUNCTION A comma is used to separate two independent clauses that are joined by one of these conjunctions: and, but, or, for, nor. EXAMPLES: I HIT MY BROTHER WITH STICK, AND HE CRIED. First independent clause is: I HIT MY BROTHER WITH STICK Second independent clause is: HE CRIED.
COMMA - AND OMITTED When two or more adjectives modify the same noun, they are separated by commas. EXAMPLES: When it comes to eating, people differ in their tastes. This has been a long, interesting job.
