What is an element? An element is a substance that cannot be separated into anything simpler & contains only one type of atom.
What is a compound? A compound is a substance that consists of two or more elements chemically combined. The amounts of each element are in fixed proportions. A compound can only be broken down by chemical means and not by physical methods.A compound has different properties to the element it contains.
What is a mixture? A mixture can be separated into simpler substances by physical means. The amounts of these substances can be present in any proportion. The properties of a mixture are the same as those of the substances it contains.
What are the methods of separating substances physically? filtration, evaporation, chromatography, magnets
