QUESTIONNAIRES

  1. DEFINITION

    • Consists of a set of questions or other types of prompts that aims to collect information from a respondent.
    • A research questionnaire is typically a mix of close-ended questions and open-ended questions.
  2. TYPES

    • The mail survey
      • It is, by far, the most common questionnaire type. This instrument is addressed to respondents and delivered by mail, and can be an efficient way of collecting large amounts of data.
    • The group-administered
      • It is a useful instrument for collecting data from a sample of respondents who can naturally be brought together for the purpose.
    • The household drop-off survey
      • Using this approach, the researcher delivers the questionnaire by hand to a member of an identified household for collection at some later date.
  3. ISSUES

    • Incorrect Feedback
      • One of the biggest challenges marketers face when conducting surveys is that respondents give dishonest answers.
    • Reluctance Towards Sensitive Topics
      • Surveys or questionnaires that include questions about income, voting, sexual behaviors, drug abuse, etc. are generally considered sensitive. The response rate of such questionnaires is nearly low.
    • Ignorance of Questions
      • In questionnaires, there are high chances that respondents may ignore certain questions or don’t feel them important enough to give answers.
  4. DATA ANALYSIS

    • Most questionnaires require respondents to register replies to questions by ticking boxes, completing statements, or by providing written replies according to the question type.
    • Answers or responses are coded by the researcher or those responsible for developing the questionnaire.
      • This allows the data from questionnaires to be gathered quickly and then presented in a form more useable for subsequent analysis.
  5. USES

    • Evaluation
    • The diagnosis of knowledge
    • Self-assessment
    • Do research on a topic
    • Guide teamwork
    • Retrieve information
  6. LIMITATIONS

    • The information obtained is superficial
    • Apparent uniformity caused by the non-understanding of the questions proposed to the respondents.
    • The percentage of unanswered questions is high on many occasions.
