Types of data

  1. Carlos Abraham Brenez Mancilla A01631069 Group 7 Logical Computational Thinking

    • Resources: Cárdenas D. et al. (2015) Logical Thinking second edition. Ibook.
  2. How are data entered in the computer?

    • In the past computers used numbers as a data entry but with the new technology we have many data and input methods.
  3. Data classification

    • We can entered into a computer data which can be classified as: number, alphanumeric, audiovisual, or physical.
      • Numerical data refers to numbers that are used for operations, some examples, kilometers run, weight, height.
  4. How are data processed?

    • Before the data can be convert to information some processes have to be carry out.
      • Data entry: Is when and input device give an operation this operation goes to the RAM memory so it can be processed.
      • Data processing: Here is where the operation is read by the program an tell us what to do.
      • Output generation: Here is where the result is show by an output device
  5. How are data stored on a computer?

    • Is when the computer saves the processed arithmetic and logical operations and are stored at the RAM memory to be used later.
  6. What is a variable?

    • Is a symbolic address, and can take different values temporary, because this variable can change.
  7. What is a constant?

    • The constants as the variables are represented by a symbol the difference is that the constant never change during the resolution
  8. Guidelines for assigning names to variables and constants.

    • We have to keep this in mind, every constant and variable needs a name that identifies it, we have some rules to follow.
      • They can only contain alphanumeric or numeric characters and underscore.
      • They always have to start with an alphanumeric character.
      • They need to be related to the value that is being saved.
      • They should not be longer than 255 characters
  9. Types of data.

    • Numeric.
      • Interger and real.
    • Logic.
      • Boolean.
    • Character.
      • Character and string.
  10. Numeric.

    • The data can be interger or real
      • Interger: 50, -504, 876
      • Real
        • Real: 50, .50, -32.324
  11. How much space do the data utilize in the memory?

    • Once the data is saved and has their respective variables the memory they use depends on the type the data there are being stored.
      • Character: 1 Byte per character. Int: 4 Byte. Boolean: 1 Byte.
  12. Alphanumeric .

    • Character data only one character it could be a numer, letter or a special symbol.
      • A, 1, #
    • String data combine alphabetic and special numeric characters.
      • A01631069, Las Cañadas #200
  13. Logic

    • Boolean numbers enter here, they only have two values true or false.
  14. How to assign value to variable or a constant?

    • The way a variable or a constant gets their value is through the assignation operation. They are represented with a left arrow and the value is next to them,
      • (8.4, M, Juan), variable (Weight, Gen, Name) expression (X*Y, (A+B+C)/3)
