The reactivity series
  1. Metals can be put into an order of reactivity
    1. Potassium, Sodium, lithium, calcium, magnesium, aluminium, zinc, iron, tin, lead, copper, silver, gold, platinium
      1. For reactions see printed sheet
      2. In a displacement reaction, a MORE REACTIVE metal replaces a LESS reactive metal.
        1. Oxidation - Addition of oxygen
          1. Reduction - Removal of oxygen
            1. Redox - Reduction at the cathode and oxidation at the annode
              1. Oxidising agent - Something that causes oxidation
                1. Reducing agent - Something that causes a reduction
                  1. Rusting
                    1. An oxidation reaction
                      1. On the corrosion of IRON
                        1. Needs oxygen and water present
                          1. The iron gains oxygen and forms iron (III) oxide and then water bonds to it to form hydrated iron (III) oxide, rust.
                            1. Can be prevented by: Grease, oil, paint, plastic and galvonsing
