cause rivers to burst their banks, creating a swell of water moving at 65Km/hr
Causes
2 air masses converged over warm land, resulted in cumulonimbus clouds
Clouds over 10km high, created intense rainfall
133mm fell in a short time
ground was saturated so couldnt soak up any rain, so ran to river as a run-off
Boscastle is in a very steep valley so water moves rapidly into rivers
tress cut from drainage basin reducing vegetation interception
FLASH FLOOD

tourists and residents evacuated to village hall
7 helicopters deployed to rescue people from roofs
120 air lifted to safety
Coastguards watched harbour entrance to ensure none were swept away
50 people rescued by firemen cutting through roofs to allow people to escape
