IP Addressing
1. IP addressing requires more thought and effort to learn as compared with data-link addressing

3. IP hosts include every traditional PC, every phone, and every tablet computer
IP Routing
1. IP routing functions relies heavily on the other other two functions, using routers, the LANs and WANs connected to the routers, and the IP addresses that identify the hosts
2. The routers have the responsibility to know to know the locations of all the host IP addresses in the TCP/IP network
3. IP hosts and IP routers forward (route) IP packets through a TCP/IP network
Layer 3 Functions
1. IP routers have an IP routing table with useful routes for IP routing to work
2. Most routing protocols exist as TCP/IP standards as defined in various RFCs
3. Routers build their IP routing table in two ways, through static configuration or with dynamic routing protocols
TCP/IP Model
1. The TCP/IP network layer completes functions in a TCP/IP network by defining how to forward packets betweek any two hosts
2. The TCP/IP network layer delivers data from end to end through the network
3. Every new term, standard, protocol, and address is related to some physical layer or data link layer
