An element is made up of only 1 type of atom.
A compound is made up of 2 or more atoms chemically combined.
A mixture is formed when 2 or more atoms make a substance that are not chemically combined.
A solute is what dissolves in a solvent to make a solution.
Soluble things will dissolve.
Insoluble things do not dissolve.
Filtering is the separation of a soluble from an insoluble.
If something reacts chemically a new substance will be formed and/or a temperature change will occur and/or it will change colour
The formula for sodium chloride is NaCl.
The symbol for an aqueous is (aq).
distillation is the process of heating a liquid until it turns to gas then getting a cooler tube to make the gas condensate around the tube and finally collecting the liquid that comes from the condensation. Evaporation, condensation, collection.
A solution is what happens when a solid dissolves in a liquid.
An alloy is a mixture of 2 or more elements with 1 or more being a metal.
Polymers are made up of lots of molecules attached to each other to form long chains.
Biodegradable means that something can decompose naturally.
Elements and compounds have fixed boiling and freezing points.
Mixtures do not have fixed boiling and freezing points because of their composition.
A mixture can be separated by physical means.
The composition of air is 21% oxygen, 78% nitrogen and 1% other.
