We used YouTube to research common music video conventions used in Music Videos. This was
useful as by watching several types of video's we learned all the conventions and were able to plan
and structure the conventions we wanted to include in our A2 production.
Reading Meda Writers Block
To get an understanding of many forms, conventions and different media theories/ theorists we
viewed many an article and blog from music video writers to help home our understanding of the
information. For example.... http://keca2media.blogspot.co.uk/p/media-theory.html
Wix
We originally decided to use Wix as the place we would record and store all the information and
thought we had gathered. From this we developed the information into making personal notes on
the forms and conventions of music videos that would help us in the planning of our music video by
deciding what forms and conventions we would use. This can be shown through the written
response with video examples and screen shots. Which has now been moved to Webley on our group
blog.
Construction
Adobe Photoshop CS3
We Used Adobe Photoshop CS3 in the creation of ancillary tasks which included the designing of a
Digipak and in the creation of the poster to advertise Doctor 10's new single. Due to all the layers
that can be added and filter effects that can be used, it of very effective for creating quality images.
We partially found the use of the blur effects and colour saturation useful in creating the distorted
theme of our poster.
Clamp Lights
Clamp lights were used when we filmed the fall out scene in the Kitchen towards the end of our
music video. We felt that the clamp lights were great as they added the intensity needed on the face
of girlfriend, who really highlighted her emotions when she found out her boyfriend had been
cheating on her.
I Movie
We edited all of footage on I movie. Just like last year we used I
movie but because we had used it before we already knew most of
the controls and it gave us added confidence to try new tools and
effects out. Such as new sharper cuts during the flashback scene,
layering the clips over each over and lowering the opacity to create a
distorted presence at certain times in the music video and altering
the colour of each clip by playing with the saturation, exposure,
contrast, brightest and the mount of colour in each clicked.
YouTube
YouTube was used when we
uploaded our finished video on to
YouTube, so we could then
incorporate the video into the blog;
without a link needing to be clicked.
Nikon 3100D
Nikon D3100 was the main
camera we used when filming,
this was because of its high
resolution film quality with a
sharp crisp focus.
Sony HD Camera
We used the Sony camera when filming all the footage at Jephson
Gardens in Leamington. We used it as the Nikon Camera was sadly
forgotten on that day of filming so luckily we had had the Sony HD
Camera as a spare. Although the Sony’s film quality was not as good
as the Nikon, however it was still useful thanks to its HD quality and
adjustable exposure settings.
Planning
Microsoft Word
We used Microsoft word when creating questionnaires for our
target audience, when checking our initial ideas with them.
YouTube
We decided to use YouTube to watch other music videos so we could get ideas about storylines and
conventions that we could possibly challenge or even replicate in our music video. We felt that this
research was useful as we able to use and even get ideas from watching these video's which would
go on to shape the forms, conventions and storyline we would go with. Such as the watching of
B.O.B's song "So Good", gave us the idea to have the couple happy and enjoying each other’s
company, which we added our own unique twist to by having the Man cheat on his girlfriend.
Location Scouting
We used it when we went of Location Scouting taking pictures across the Warwickshire area to such
places as Bishop's Tachbrook, Oakley wood and Jephson Gardens in Royal Leamington Spa. We did
this in order so we could have a visual representation of where and what areas we could film our
music video at.
Weebly
Webley was the chosen website we decided to present our progression of ideas on, all the way from
research and as your reading this all the way up to the evaluation stage. However in the planning
stage we mainly used it as a place to present all the planning we had done, by putting up Location
scouting.... On top of this what made Webley could was that it has a feature to import Prezi’s, this
was important as it meant we could show our treatment directly on the blog, instead of using a web
address.
Prezi
We used Prezi to present our music video treatment. We felt Prezi was
very effective way of showing our ideas thanks to the unique flexibility
and diversity Prezi offers over Microsoft word, through the dynamic
transitions, zooms and through the importation of YouTube videos made
it a complex and creative way of showing our treatment to our actors
and target audience.
