      Annotations:

      • Made up of two or more substances
      • Amounts of substances in a mixture can vary
      • Usually easy to separate the substances in a mixture
      • Properties of a mixture are similar to those of the substances in the mixture
      • Very little heat change when a mixture is made
    2. Pure Substances

      Annotations:

      • Matter with a specific composition and properties
      1. Elements

        Annotations:

        • A substance made up of only one type of atom
        1. Compounds

          Annotations:

          1. Properties

            Annotations:

            • Properties of a compound are different to those of the elements it contains
            • Made up of a single substance
            • Elements in a compound are always in fixed ratio
            • Difficult to separate the elements of a compound
            • There is usually a heat change when a compound is formed
        2. Molecules
