Introduction to the Scientific Method
  1. 1. Make Observations
    1. Must be Objective
      1. Based on Actual events or phenomena
      2. 2. Form a hypothesis
        1. If possible, should include an explanation for your probable answer.
          1. Must be testable and falsifiable
            1. A probable answer to your question or observation.
            2. 3. Make a Prediction
              1. An "if...then..." statement stating basic experiment and expected outcome.
                1. Formed from the hypothesis.
                2. 4. Create an Experiment
                  1. Some experiments are controlled experiments and others are observational.
                    1. Independent variable (treatment) is the factor that is manipulated.
                      1. must be able to be replicated
                        1. Dependent variable (response) is the factor that you are measuring.
                        2. 5. Analyse the Results
                          1. Was there a verifiable effect?
                            1. Were the variables controlled?
                              1. Present the data as a table or graph.
                              2. 6. Form a Conclusion
                                1. Compare to findings from other researchers.
                                  1. Was the hypothesis supported or refuted?
