                            1. Originally developed as an industrial area in the 18th century First railway station was built in 1841 by Brunel, eventually covering 40% of the area. Terrace housing and industries including rope works, glass works and potteries grew up alongside Became run down when manufacturing became cheaper abroad Terrace housing became slums It gave a bad impression of Bristol as a city (first station into Bristol on the high speed train link)

                                1. How? Target to create 4000 new jobs,and refurbish, redevelop or build new developments station : turned into modern transport hub. New bridge across the river avon Temple studios (technical and digital enterprise The Brunel engine shed: reusing a historic building, a 1.7 million pound innovation centre for high tec and creative industries.(techspark) More cycle paths and pedestrian pathways to improve safety and reduce air pollution
                                  1. successful? One of the largest urban regeneration projects in the uk (70 hectares) It has been successful in the following ways Enterprise zones created jobs. Incentives were provided for businesses to encourage them to move to the area (low rent, easier planning rules) Improved access with links to the cycle path and transit network Improvements to the station encouraged more train journeys Electrification of London to Bristol railway line
