Genes
  1. units of heredity that maintain their structural identity throughout generations. Genes come in pairs and are bundled into 23 chromosomes
    1. Chromosome- strands of genes that also come in pairs.
      1. 2 x chromosomes = female
        1. 1 x and 1 y chromosome = male
          1. Heterozygous- unmatched pair of genes on the two chromosomes. Dominant genotype is expressed as phenotype.
            1. Dominant genes- gene expresses itself in either pairing
            2. Homozygous- identical pair of genes on the two chromosomes. Dominant or recessive genotype is expressed as phenotype
              1. Recessive genes- gene requires full pairing in order to be expressed.
