    1. AIM: they wanted the parliament and the public of the south to understand that they were responsible citizens but living in an area where there was 70% unemployment
      1. Their MP -Ellen Wilkinson known as 'Red Ellen' walked with them
        1. The men were demanding that a steel works be built to bring back jobs in the town
          1. When the marches finished-little was done about it -industry stayed closed and marches were given £1 for a train fare back from london
            1. by 1935 , unemployment in jarrow was 64%
              1. was a crusade not a hunger march
                1. Banners were made in black and white not red because that's communism
