Two lines are said to be parallel when they do not meet at any point in a plane. Lines which do not have a common intersection
point and never cross path with each other are parallel to each other.
.The perpendicular distance between the two parallel lines
is always constant.
If two parallel lines are cut by a transversal, then the -
pairs of corresponding angles are
equal.
pairs of alternate (interior as well as exterior) angles are equal.
Pairs of Angles
Lines can either be parallel or intersecting. When two lines meet
at a point in a plane, they are known as intersecting lines. If a line
intersects two or more lines at distinct points then it is known as
a transversal line.
when a transversal intersects two parallel lines, then pairs of angles are formed,
such as:
Vertically opposite
angles
Alternate exterior
angles
Corresponding
angles
Linear pair
Alternate interior
angles
interior angles on the same side of
the transversal are supplementary.
The distance between parallel lines does not change, it is the
same every where.
