                  1. Advantages: Prevents the movement of beach material along the coast by longshore drift. Allows the build up of a beach. Beaches are a natural defence against erosion and an attraction for tourists.
                    1. Disadvantages Can be seen as unattractive. Costly to build and maintain.
                      1. there is many at hengisbury head creating banana beaches
                      2. Gabions
                        1. Rocks in a metal mesh cage that take the energy out of the waves
                          1. absorb wave energy
                            1. protects the land behind it
