The earths crust is broken up into plates
1. Moved by convection currents
2. Where the convection currents diverge near the earths crust the plates move apart
3. Where convection currents converge, plates move toward each other
Heat rising and falling inside the mantle create convection currents
1. These are generated by radioactive decay in the core
Plate tectonics
1. The movement of the plates in the earth
2. Cause earthquakes and volcanoes
3. wher two plates meet is called a plate boundary
