Landforms
Upper Course High Force Waterfall- At the top of the water
fall there is a very hard rock called Whin sill , which is the
cap rocj. Below this lies softer rock such as limestone,
sandstone and shale. Erosional feature
Low force potholes- Also located in the upper course of the river in upper Teesdale. small
pebbles become trapped in hollows of the rock. The river flow has caused the pebbles to
swirl around in the hollow making it deeper
Meanders- located in the lower course of the river close to yarm there is lots of meander. They
are formed as the flow of the river has less energy on the inside of the bend therefore the
sediment is deposited. Whereas on the side bend the velocity of the river is more so lateral erosion occurs there.
