Resource summary
cell division
INTERPHASE
also known as resting phase .cell preparing for division.
G1 Phase
interval between mitosis and DNA replication
S phase
DNA replication. Amount of DNA doubles
Annotations:
there is not increase in the CHROMOSOME NUMBER.
G2 phase
proteins are synthesized in preparation for mitosis
Quiescent stage
metabolically active but no longer proliferate
Annotations:
some cells like heart cells do not divide.these cells exit G1 phase to enter an inactive stage called quiescent stage.
M PHASE ( MITOSIS)
Prophase
Replicated chromosomes condense and become visible
Annotations:
nucleolus and nuclear membrane disappear. Microtubules are assembles into mitotic spindle.Centrioles move to opposite poles.
Metaphase
chromosomes line up at the equator of the spindle : METAPHASE plate
Annotations:
spindle fibres get attached to kinetochores of chromosomes.
Anaphase
centrosomes split and chromatids separate
Annotations:
chromatids move to opposite poles.
Telophase
chromosomes cluster at opposite poles
Annotations:
nuclear envelope assembles around the chromosome clusters. nucleolus and golgi complex reform.
also known as EQUATIONAL DIVISION
