Form of Simple Past :
1. Positive: I spoke.
2. Negative: I did not speak.
3. Question: Did I speak?

Exceptions in Spelling when Adding ‘ed’ :
1. * after a final e only add d
  1. Example: love – loved
2. *final consonant after a short, stressed vowel or l as final consonant after a vowel is doubled
  1. Admit – admitted

3. Final y after a consonant becomes i
  1. Hurry – hurried
Use of Simple Past :
1. *action in the past taking place once, never or several times
  1. Example : He visited his parents every weekend.
2. *action in the past taking place in the middle of another action
  1. Example: When I was having breakfast, the phone suddenly rang.
3. *if sentences type II (If I talked, …)
  1. Example: :If I had a lot of money, I would share it with you.
4. actions in the past taking place one after the other
  1. Example: He came in, took off his coat and sat down.
