    1. Aim:to investigate similarities and differences across gender roles in different cultures.
      1. Method: She lived in various tribes in New Guinea for 6 months.
        1. Results: In the Mundugamor tribes both sexes were masculine. In the Arapesh tribe both sexes were feminine. In the Tchambuli tribe gender roles were reversed compared to western society.
          1. Conclusion: Mead found that gender related behaviours were not universal suggesting they are not determined by nature but depend on culture.
            1. Evaluation: Mead is sometimes critised for being too subjective.
