WW2 - Dunkirk
- The public opinion:
- In Germany, Berlin, many
were celebrating the great
loss dealt on the allied
forces, and the event was
used as propaganda.
- The people believed in
what Winston Churchill
had said, and sincerely
thought that the
evacuation was a great
triumph, and they told
that they were going to
'fight again'.
- Winston Churchill stated the evacuation of
Dunkirk a triumph, stating how the
soldiers and commanders have learnt a
great deal and the whole project
(Dynamo) was a success. In reality, this is
not true, as the soldiers were lucky to
survive, and this event was used as
propaganda in Germany.

- Many small vessels and ships were sent to
the shore, where a variety of boats were
seen e.g. fishing motor boats to old Navy
sub-battleships. The Germans almost
'kicked them out' as they were pushed
further and further to shore due to heavy

- Winston Churchill came up with a code-name for Dunkirk
'Project Dynamo'. This was an evacuation plan to take the
soldiers and evacuate them. Although the plan was a success
itself, there was GREAT loss and lots of damage was dealt as
the allied forces lost almost all their gear, they were either left
behind, destroyed or picked up by the Germans to use.

- The second world war was completely different from the first. It was a war of
movement rather than a war of trenches. At the start of the War, nothing could
stop the German army. It took just a month for it to conquer Poland. In May
1940, Hitler turned his attention to the west. France was his next target. The
french had string defenses along the German border, so Hitler simply went
around them. The British expidetionary force came as help and as allies and
backed up the French lines. Unfortunately, the German advance was so quick
that the troops were trapped between the German army and the English
channel! The only escape route was by sea.
