What do you feel you have learnt in the
progression of the magazine to full product?
Images
I had to retake a number of times in
order to ensure that they were suitable
and that the lighting was suitable.
I would carefully plan my images before taking, this can be seen on my original images
plan on my blog. Unlike my sixth form magazine which contained only one image.
Layout
For the majority of my music magazine, I
followed traditional layout conventions as
the majority of my pages were divided into
columns or organised areas of text.
In my sixth form magazine, the content was organised into columns,
including the image plan, however I decided to group images when
producing my music magazine so that it would get the attention of the reader.
Text Content
Throughout my music magazine, especially in the feature article, I employed a
number of literary techniques such as colloquial language to inform the reader
whilst subtly portraying an opinion upon the reader of a certain band/event/situation.
Audience Research
I used a website called survey monkey to gain information on which
areas of my magazine are most favourable and which areas needed the
most development. I found that my front cover required changes to the
coverlines in terms of positioning and fonts, whilst the contents page
needed more information surrounding the page numbers listed.
Furthermore through the use of survey creation sites, I found that there was an urgent need
to add more variety of font and too impose a strong hierarchy of font in relation to
distinguishing between coverlines and sub-headngs.
Colour Scheme
Due to the genre of my music magazine, it
made sense to use a typical rock colour
scheme, this consisted of dark colours such as
black and red whilst adding an accent colour of
yellow to highlight key information/quotes.
I have learn't through magazine research that often the
accent colour employed by magazine publishers in the
rock genre is yellow, I used a blend of yellow/green
throughout my rock magazine to follow these popular
conventions.
