DRAW ON JORDAN CASE STUDY TO SHOW WHY CARE WORKER MIGHT CHOSE TO SUPPORT A YOUNG PERSON WITH LSW, WHAT SHLD THEY BE MINDFUL OF?Jordan an 8 yr old boy in foster care, faces many transitions in care which can lead to disruppted life narratives which in turn can lead poor self image and inflexible attitutde to how they fit into the world. Using John Bowlby attachmnet theory many children in care have a poor sense of self which is a reflection of them not having a secure base from which to explore the world, develop their internal working models. They have not been shown how to interact with the world. LSW aims to increase self confidence, awarness, help them develop a sense of identity and learn about where they come from and how their past has impacted on their lives today. To acknowledge and correct any magical thinking (ROSE AND PHILPOT), to allow the child to develop a COVER STORY (AFSHAN AHMED: FCA) that they feel comfortable telling others they encounter. It helps to establish roots, showing them where they come from and help them see how they might progress in the future. It can help to address misconceptions they have such as Jordan's view of his father. Can lead to foster carers having a greater understanding of the child and their issues and in turn help child and carers develop a healthy mutually beneficial realtionship which helps child to develop secure base. RYAN AND WALKER: every child has the right to know where they come from and to be involved with the process, IN KEEPING WITH 2002 ADOPTION AND CHILDRENS ACT!! WHAT THEY NEED TO BE AWARE OF: RYAN AND WALKER : Magical thinking (ROSE AND PHILPOT), issues of confidentiality (Deciding what to share can be about power and control over sharing information and understanding about confidentiality .)The LSW needs to be sure they donot impose their agenda onto the child and not shy away from the difficult issues. Though they must decide what info is shared and when(age appropriate). The work must be dictated by they child and use their interests to build it, ie, Jordan likes computers, Suzanne McGladdery used video for one young person. It is imp life story wrker knows what expectations are held of the wrk and that the hoped outcomes are realistic. It is a long process so the LSW must have the time and be dedicated to seeing the process through otherwise the child will experience a futher disruption in their life. AFSHAN AHMED LSW- DESCRIBES HOW PROCESS IS ONGOING AND USES EXAMPLE OF PREVIOUS FCA CHILDREN RETUNING TO THE ORGANISATION- THERE IS A SENSE OF ATTACHMENT BETWEEN THE CHILD AND/OR THE FCA AND CARE WORKERS.
