NEW RIGHT SUPPORTERS (PAUL WILDING + VIC GEORGE) - welfare state took service user out of driving seat in their journey of care Beveridge supporters felt it was unethical to consider those needing care as consumers who had the ability and knowledege to exercise a choice over thier own health care NR embraced principle of a care/free market. They argued that by implementing welfare state labour g'ment failed to pay attention to the economy and ignored costs (need to implement prescription charges) Beveridge supporters argued that encouraging outsourcing would = a decline in care standards as wrkers wld be paid less for a demanding job. Care wrk would be pushed back onto shoulders of carers NR felt that NHS failed to tackle disease but infact created more as peopel used the NHS because it was free and available, also people living longer increased no. needing pensions Beverifdge aimed to comabt squalor thro intro of 1946 housing act which increased funding thro local g'ments NR housing act 1985 decreased tennants rights and housing benefit Beveridge felt that inorder to irradicate want there shld be flat rate of benefit avaliable to all NR 1986 Social Security Act which made changes to the benefirts system, people were no longer given grants in timwe of need but loans which had to be re paid
