Unit 1- Investigating how businesses workControlled assessment activity one.Investigate what a business is and what businesses do.(30 marks)

(A) Explain the reasons behind your choice of businesses and how you planned and carried out your research.Reasons for choosing Coca-Cola.   They do educational talks which allows us to take a trip to get real insight and knowledge on the company and how it works Its a multi-national company which shows us how a world wide company works. its a secondary company- We can learn about how a secondary company creates a product from raw materials. They have a range of products which allows us to understand how a company deal with a large amount of produce They have fierce competition- We can see how a company keeps up with what people prefer and how they  keep on top of their competitors    All ages enjoy it- We can learn how a company makes one type of product enjoyable for all ages and types of people

       Reasons for choosing Thorpe park. Its a smaller company (national)- We can see how smaller company's compete with each other and compare it to bigger multi-national company's Educational talks- we can go on trips to see and underhand how smaller company's keep up a profit and keep customers choosing them over  bigger company's. So we can understand how they sell a service (entertainment) and how they keep it to a good standard. Its a place most people have been to so we can see peoples views on it. Its a tertiary sector we can compare it to Coca-Cola to compare the different sectors- secondary and tertiary.

How was the research carried out?Research was carried out through a number of class lessons where we discussed the two businesses. We also had lessons when we would carry out research about the to places online. This aloud us to gain a wide range of knowledge of both company's. We spoke about the different businesses sectors and what they do. We also spoke about aims and objectives of the company's and what the difference between an aim and an objective is. We discussed what direct and indirect competitors are and the competitors between both company's.

(B)Identify, compare and contrast the(i)Aims and objectives(ii)purpose(iii)activities(iv)main competitors.Of BOTH businesses.Aims and objectives for Coca-Cola- Aim 1- create Value for share holders- increase profit so it can be given to share holders as dividend // increase dividend to attract more share holders. Aim 2- grow value of existing brands and expand the portfolio responsibly- focus on  excellent customer service // focus on coke zero and energy drinks. Aim 3- improving supply chain- transform our go to market model to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Aim 4- improve working quality -attract, develop and retain a highly talented and diverse work force. Aims and objectives of Thorpe Park- Aim 1-(merlin)-growth of existing estate VIA planned investment-regular investment in new rides // increasing volumes and guest satisfaction. Aim 2-(merlin)-Strategic synergies-maximising cost savings by sharing marketing products & costs across all brands // Merlin annual pass, national ad. campaigns. // Sharing products I.E 4D Lego film. Aim 3-resort destination positioning - Turning theme parks into a short break destinations by adding hotels or sleeping accommodation and other leisure activities. // Extending catchment area (more revenue) and encouraging pre-booking. Aim 4- increase profitability- increase turnover (sales) // reduce cost (see aim 2) // Therefore increasing profit Coca-Cola's purpose-Mission statement- 'The Coca-Cola Enterprise vision is to be the best beverage sales and customers service company'-Coca cola want to be the best drinks sales and customer service company. To be the largest bottling and managing company in the world.Thorpe Parks purpose-mission statement (merlin)-'Our vision is to become the worldwide leader in branded, location based entertainment.' To have the best entertainment themed park parks and to become world wide leaders in out of home entertainment (LBE)Activities of Coca-Cola Enterprise-Coca-Cola Enterprise are the makers, sellers and delivers of all of their soft drinks in GB. Over 4 billion bottles and cans of Coke are sold every year in Great Britain alone. They employ some 4,000 people in GB and their goal is to maintain a workplace where people are inspired to work as a team and to achieve their personal best performance every day. As leaders in the soft drinks industry they make it their responsibility to work in the most sustainable way possible   Thorpe Parks activities-Thorpe park provide an entertainment service allowing thrill seekers and other such people to enjoy the adrenalin of some of the biggest and fastest roller Costas in the world. They have around 850 employees work at a time and do their best to insure that the needs of their customers is met by providing a range of needed facilities.
