#48 Loud Noises Startle and Grab Attention Your Mind is always surveying the surroundings and environment to make sure nothing in is is dangerous. Anything new or different will grab someone’s attention. People habituate to stimuli – if the same thing happens again and again then your mind decides it is not new anymore and not harmful to yourself and then will therefor ignore the stimuli. Takeaways: When designing you can control what sounds are made. Pick a sound that is useful for the situation. When using sounds change them so often so people will not habituate to them.
