causes of war:-defending beliefs or way of life-to gain power/land/resources-defend allies/own country-trying to stop genocide

Pacifism:-non violence-sanctity of life-ghandi- "an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind"-buddhists are pacifists-follow the eightfold path- wrong to go to war as its not the right intention

just war:-war has to have good reason-reasnoble chances of success

holy war:-war is authorised by God-the crusades, christians claiming land from muslims-jahad is a holy war (9/11)

conscientious objectors:-oppose war as it goes against their conscience-pacifists

religious believers who have worked for peace:-irene sendler, RC, smuggled babies out of the concentration camps, against the polish resistance
