Photosynthesis is the process of plants making food from sunlight. The food it produces is glucose.
Photosynthesis happens inside chloroplasts. Chloroplasts contain the green pigment chlorophyll, which absorbs sunlight and converts carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.

Converts light energy into chemical energy, stored in the glucose. Chemical energy is released when glucose is broken down during respiration.
How are leaves adapted?
They are broad, large area's exposed to sunlight
Chloroplasts are found in palisade layer, closer to the top to gain more light
Upper epidermis is transparent, more light can get through to palisade layer
A waxy cuticle to prevent water loss
Xylem tubes transport water and mineral salts from the roots up the shoot and Phloem tubes transport sugars to other parts of the leaf, this is translocation.
The leaf is also made efficient for gas exchange e.g. lower surface of the leaf has tiny holes called stomata which let CO2 diffuse directly in and out of it
