1basics of set theory: scientific way to measure uncertainty - measure likelihood of an event occurringset is a collection of objects
use upper case to denote the set and small letters for an element of the set
eg A{a,b,s,e,} - finitely countable
can also be infinitely countable (A{1,2,3,4.....infinity)...its countable if u can form a 1-1 ration between set and natural numbers
eq R (0;-infinity) - uncountable
2whats a subset? A is a subset of B if every element in A is also in B (but EVERY element in B isn't in A eg. B{w,x,y,z) and A {x,y,z}Note: the empty set is a subset of EVERY SET
set with 3 elements has 8 subsets including empty set and also itself
- set with n elements has 2^n subsets
3—equal sets are equal
intersections of sets
AnB(A intersection B) is a set that contains elements common in both A and B
4Union of sets AuB (A union B) is a set that contains elements in EITHER A OR B...like adding both sets together
