Reliability and Standards

- 1Computer- An electronic device capable of receiving data in a particular form Computer System - A computer system is when you input something into a computer to get an output. Computer systems are based on processing data & producing information. They are electronic making them fast and the important thing about them is that they are programmable, so a computer system can be made to do many things depending on the instructions we give itIf a new system is developed according to defined standards it is more likely to be successful and satisfy its users. Standards also help to make sure that different computer systems can talk to each other.
- 2Software Development Methods Evolutionary Prototyping- involves creating prototypes of software applications, incomplete versions of a software program being developed. It is used to visualize components of the software. Extreme programming or Agile development - This method can be used with any type of the project but it needs involvement from the customer and be interactive. It can be used when the customer needs to have some functional requirement in less than three weeksWaterfall Model - The waterfall Model is a linear sequential flow. In which progress is seen as flowing steadily downwards (like a waterfall) through phases of software implementation. This means that any phase in the development process begins only if the previous phase is complete. The waterfall approach does not define the process to go back to the previous phase to handle changes in requirement. The waterfall approach is the earliest approach that was used for software development.
- 3Point 1: Developing a non-trivial system usually involves many people. this needs discipline, project planning and standards. Point 2: Standards capture best practice so the learning gained from earlier projects are carried through to new ones. Point 3: Computer systems both hardware and software are developed by professional engineersWhat is meant by the reliability of computers and why it is imperative when using computers.
Reliability of computers means how consistently it performs according to its specification, it is imperative because we are now more dependent on computer systems so we need to be able to rely on them and know they will not crash.
