- 6What is the purpose of the computer case?The case of the computer holds all the internal parts and keeps the components protected. The case can be removed if parts need changing.
- 7What is the purpose of the motherboard?All of the different parts of the computer are connected to the motherboard. It sends messages to all the other components inside the computer. In most computers, the motherboard is a big green board with lots of different slots and silicone chips
- 8What is the purpose of the Processor?The Central Processing Unit (CPU)is an electronic machine that works on a list of things to do, called 'instructions'. It reads the list of instructions and does (executes) each one in order. A list of instructions that a CPU can run is a computer program.
- 9What is the purpose of the RAM?Random access memory (or simply RAM) is the memory or information stored in a computer that is used to store running programs and data for the programs. RAM is a form of short term memory and will be lost if the computer has no power.
- 10What is the purpose of ROM?Stores a program used to boot up the computer. This is called the bootstrap loader.
- 11What is the purpose of the Hard Drive?The hard drive is where all of your documents, pictures, programs etc. are stored on the computer. The hard drive is a form of long term, secondary storage which is not lost if the computer has no power
- 12What is a repetitive strain injury (RSI) and what causes them?Damage to the fingers and wrists due to repetitive movements on a computer.
- 13What is the cause of back injuries when using a computer?you were in a poor posture for a very long time or a weird position.
- 14What is eye strain and what is the cause?Usually caused by staring at a computer screen for a long time. Particularly in poor light, in glare or with a flickering screen.
