- 2What is an experiment?Testing out a hypothesis under controlled conditions to examine it's validity.
- 3What is the scientific method?A practical way of asking and answering scientific questions. It is a process that uses observation and experimentation to make new discoveries.

- 5What is a scientific inquiry?Based on an idea or a question that needs to be answered. This question is often based on an OBSERVATION.
- 6What is an observation?An observation is an important part of the scientific process. It includes using your senses and wide variety of instrument and laboratory techniques.
- 7What does an observation allow scientists to do?To collect and record data which provides the basis to construct a hypothesis to be tested.
- 8When choosing a topic of investigating for an experiment:- choose a question YOU find interesting
- start with a topic that you are familiar with
- make sure your lab at school has the resources needed for your experiment
- finally choose a topic that would provide clear data that can be measured.
- 9What is a hypothesis?an educated guess based on evidence and prior knowledge.
- 10What is an independent variable?a variable (often denoted by x ) whose variation does not depend on that of another.
- 11What is a dependent variable?a variable (often denoted by y ) whose value depends on that of another.
