- 1What does social learning theory say about aggression? That aggression is learnt through observing role models in our environment
- 2What is deinviduation's role in aggression? When an individual's identity is hidden by a mask or uniform, aggression may occur
- 3What was Bandura's process?Attention: For an individual to learn a behaviour, they must first pay attention to the model
Retention: The individual must have the ability to remember what they paid attention to (mental images or verbal descriptions)
Reproduction: The individual must then be able to translate the images or descriptions into actual behaviour
Motivation: The individual must be motivated to imitate - 4According to Bandura, what motivates an individual to imitate?- Past reinforcements
- Expected reinforcements
-Vicarious reinforcements - 5Bandura also suggested that while the role model is important, the child must also have.....?Self - efficacy
- 6What is self - efficacy?Knowing ones own abilities and being confident in them
- 7What key study could be used for this?Bandura - Bobo the doll experiment (1961)
- 8AO1 of the 'Bobo the doll' study?- Experiment involved 36 boys & 36 girls
- Ages between 3 & 6
- 2 experimental groups (aggressive model & non-aggressive model)
- Participants pre-trested for aggression
- Child & adult were brought into a room filled with appealing toys
- The aggressive model would attack the Bobo doll with a sequence of verbal and physical violence
- This carried on for 10 minutes
- The non-aggressive model only played with the tinker toy set
- Children were then left alone in the room for 20 minutes with a series of aggressive & non-aggressive toys - 9Results of the 'Bobo the doll' study?- Bandura found that children exposed to the aggressive model were more likely to act physically violent
- Boys showed more aggression than girls
- When all instances of aggression were tallied, males exhibited 2x more aggressive instances than females - 10AO2 of 'Bobo the doll' study?- There was no follow up study so it is impossible to know the long-term effects
- It is possible that the children assumed that they were expected to attack the doll
- Noble reported hearing a child, who took part in the study, say to his mother, ' look, there's the doll we're supposed to hit'
