- 1What is communication?The sending and receiving of messages to achieve understanding, it's an exchange.
- 2What are the different communication levels?Mass Communication, Public Communication, Group Communication, Interpersonal Communication, and Intrapersonal Communication
- 3What is mass communication?Communication that millions can hear globally, maybe delayed, ex. social media, T.V, radio, etc
- 4What is public communication?Ex. A local politician giving a speech at a park, class meetings, etc.
- 5What is group communication?A group of 3-10 people; 1 message to multiple people, bouncing ideas off of one another
- 6What is interpersonal communication?Communication between two or more people.
- 7What is intrapersonal communication?Communication within one's self. Ex. Thoughts, meditation, prayer, etc.
- 8Communication process ordersender, encoding, channel/message, decoding, receiver, feedback, then it starts again.
- 9Define senderThe individual who initiates a message.
- 10Define RecieverThe listener, reader, or observer-that is the people whom a message is directed towards.
- 11Define EncodingThe sender transforms an abstract idea into a communicable message. Ex. Words, symbols, etc.
- 12Define DecodingThe Reciever interprets the message and concludes what the source is communicating.
- 13Define FeedbackThe response given by the receiver to the source, communication isn't complete without it.
- 14Define ChannelA system or method that is used for communicating with other people. Ex. radio, email, skype, etc.
- 15The three main methods of communicating:Verbal, nonverbal, and written/visual
- 16Define EthicsPertaining to right and wrong in conduct.
- 17Define Ethical CommunicationChoosing the right words and/or actions that respect the audience or listener.
- 18Define Internal BarrierNoise within a person's mind that distracts/prevents them from communicating or receiving messages. Ex. attitude, motivation, interest, bias, background, etc.
- 19Define External BarrierNoise in the environment distracts the sender/receiver and blocks communication.
