Flashcards do conjunto (5)
- 1Transmitting dataAgreed factors
1. The direction of the data transmission
(i.e. in one direction only or in both directions)
2. The method of transmission (how many bits are sent at the same time)
3. The method of synchronisation between the two devices - 2Simplex, Half-duplex + Full-duplexsimple data transmission is in one direction only- for example a computer communicating with a printer or a keyboard.
half-duplex transmission is in both directions but not at the same time- for example a walkie-talkie and texting.
Full duplex data transmission is in both directions simultaneously- for example facetime, skype. - 3Asynchronous & SynchronousAsynchronous data transmission
-refers to data being transmitted in an agreed pattern.
-Data bits are grouped together and sent with control bits
Synchronous data transmission
-If theres delays in the transmission this could affect the quality of the data. - 4SERIAL-Data is a sent one bit at a time over a single wire/channel
-Bits are sent one after the other in a single stream
-works well over long distances
-this type of data transmission is slow
-an example of its use is sending data from a CPU and the memory - 5PARALLEL-several bits of data (usually a byte) are sent down several wires or channels at the same times
- works well over short distances
-over long distances the bits can be become skewed this means they will no longer be synchronized.
-a faster method of data transmission
-an example of its use is sending data from a computer to a modern for transmission over a telephone line.
