3/5 x 4/7 = 3 x 4/ 4 x 7 = 12/35
5/8 x 1/2 5/16
6/9 x 4/5 = 24/45
3FractionsDividing by hand:
Turn the 2nd denominator upside down then multiply
3/4 / 1/3 = 3/4 3/1 3 x 3/4 x 1 = 9/4
13/24 / 15/7 13/24 / 7/15= 91/360
9/8 / 7/4= 9/8 / 4/7= 36/ 56
4FractionsCancelling down:
Divide top and bottom by same number
3/9 /3= 1/3
6/8 /2= 3/4
6/16 /2= 3/8
5FractionsAdding by hand:
Get a common denominator
2/3 + 1/5 = 2 x 5/3 x 5 + 1 x 3/ 5 x 3 =
10/15 + 3/15
7/9 + 2/3 = 7/9 + 6/9 = 13/9
7/9 + 2/8 = 56/72 +18/72 = 74/72
6FractionsSubtracting by hand:
Add or Subtract ONLY IF THE BOTTOM NUMBERS ARE THE SAME
E.g. 10/15 + 3/15 = 13/15 or
2/6 + 1/6= 3/6
5/7 - 3/7 = 2/7
2/5 - 1/9 = 18/45 - 5/45 = 13/45
