Flashcards
Programming language Levels flash cards.
Flashcards do conjunto (11)
- 1High level languages, like python or c++, are made so that users can understand the instructions but they can still be translated into machine code.Low level programming is assembly code or machine code.
- 2Machine code is the most basic language that computers use. It is all coded instructions and stored as bits.A machine code instruction has an opcode (what to do) and a operand which specifies the value or register it goes to. These can be stored as binary values
- 3The CPU can only execute machine code.To turn other languages into machine code it has to be translated.
- 4Assemblers turn machine code, into assembly language, and vice versa.Assembly language is made up of "Mnemonics" or basic words, like LDA which means load
- 5Assembly Language offers faster and smaller machine code than that from a high level language. Each CPU has its own machine code
so its not very portable - 6High-level code is easier to understand but it is harder to translate into machine code.Simple functions in high-level are very complicated in machine code therefore you have bigger and slower machine code when source code is translated
- 7High level code can also be understood by many CPU'sThis makes the code a lot more portable which is the key difference between high and low level languages.
- 8Compliers are used once the user has developed all the source codeIt turns all the source code into machine code in one go and saves it as an executable file (.com/.exe) this could take ages but the code is portable and runs by itself.
- 9An interpreter turns the source code into machine code one line at a time as its running and stops if there is an error. This is Ideal for debugging because any errors will be flagged up or the code will not run but it still needs a program to run inside.
