Types of Networks
Flashcards do conjunto (4)
- 1WAN (Wide Area Networks)WANs are used to link LANs that are separated by large distances ranging from a few ten of metres to thousands of kilometres.
- 2LAN (Local Area Networks)LANs are characterised by high-speed transmission over a restricted area. Signals need to be boosted if the LAN is too large.
- 3VPN (Virtual Private Networks)VPNs are a cheaper alternative to a WAN and use dedicated packet-switched links to interconnect two or more LANs. Several LANs are interconnected by using the existing internet infrastructure.
- 4PAN (Person Area Networks)PAN is a computer network organised around an individual person. PANs can involve smartphones and mobile computers.
