Flashcards do conjunto (7)
- 1Atomic Number- the number of protons in the nucleus of an atom, which is characteristic of a chemical element and determines its place in the periodic table.Mass Number- the total number of protons and neutrons in a nucleus.
- 2Isotopes- atoms with the same atomic number but with different mass numbersRelative Atomic Mass- the ratio of the average mass of one atom of an element to one twelfth of the mass of an atom of carbon-12.
- 3Relative Molecular Mass- the ratio of the average mass of one molecule of an element or compound to one twelfth of the mass of an atom of carbon-12.Relative Isotopic Mass- the ratio of the mass of one atom of that isotope to 1/12th of the mass of one atom of carbon-12
- 4Relative Atomic Mass- Sum of(% abundance of each isotope x mass of each isotope) divided by 100E.G- Neon
(90x20 + 10x22)/100 =20.2 - 5Ionic Bond: Describes a chemical bond in which an electron or electrons are transferred from 1 atom to another, resulting in the formation of oppositely charged ions with electrostatic forces of attraction between themMetallic Bond: Describes a chemical bond in which outer electrons are spread over a lattice of metal ions in a delocalised system
- 6Covalent Bond: Describes a chemical bond in which electrons are shared between two atomsDative Covalent: Covalent bonding in which both the electrons in the bond come from one of the atoms in the bond (co-ordinate bonding)
- 7Dipole-Dipole: An intermolecular force that results from the attraction between the molecules with permanent dipolesHydrogen Bonding: A type of intermolecular force in which a hydrogen atom covalently bonded to an electronegative atom interacts with another electronegative atom
