CPU Flash Cards
Flashcards do conjunto (7)
- 1What is the purpose of the CPU?The Central Processing unit (CPU) carries out all the processing in a computer.
The arithmetic and logic unite (ALU) carries out all of the arithmetic and logical operations.
The control unit uses electrical signals to control the flow of data within the CPU. - 2What are the functions of a CPU?The functions of a CPU are to
Fetch the instruction from memory
Decode the instruction to find out what processing to do.
Execute the instruction - 3What is the benefit of having multiple cores?More data can be processed simultaneously.
- 4What is clock speed? The speed of the fetch-execute cycle is determined by an electronic clock chip.
Clock speed is measured in cycles per second known as hertz. - 5Where does the CPU fetch from? The CPU fetches from the RAM.
- 6What is the ALUThe arithmetic and logic unit (ALU) carries out all arithmetic and logical operations.
- 7Difference between levels of cache.Level 2 feeds into Level 1. Level 1 Cache is the fastest, and level 2 cache is the overflow of the level 1 cache.
