Flashcards do conjunto (16)
- 1Define an adhesive.A binding agent which bonds items together.
- 2What are the features in a product which defines how visually appealing the product is.Aesthetics.
- 3Define and give an example of an alloy.Definition: A metal made from a combination of two or more metals.
Examples: steel, brass, solder. - 4What are anthropometrics? The study of human measurements.
- 5Name the three main types of production.Mass production, batch production and tailored/one-off production.
- 6What is the name of a product which has the property of breaking down naturally?Biodegradable.
- 7Give advantages and disadvantages for the use of CAM.Pros: consistency, accuracy, speeds up rate of production.
Cons: software/hardwave is expensive, can be slow for one-off production, staff need training. - 8Give advantages and disadvantages for the use of CAD.Pros: accuracy, changes can be made quickly and easily, detail.
Cons: software can be expensive, staff need to be trained. - 9Define what a casting is.A casting is the process of filling a space with liquid material until in becomes solid.
- 10Identify the two properties which makes a composite material.A material which is made from two or more different materials.
Each material in the composition retains its own unique identity (e.g. materials are in visable layers). - 11What is meant by the term 'corrosion'?Deterioration of a metal by chemical reactions, often due to the environment.
- 12Define the process of cutting and creasing materials using a simple press knife.Die cutting.
- 13Give examples of environmental issues which must be considered in product design. The materials of the product, how the product will be disposed of, resources consumed, potential by-products of production/disposing, impact from production.
- 14A metal which contains iron can be defined as...?A ferrous metal.
- 15A resource which is described as 'finite' means that it is...?A limited resource.
- 16Describe what is ment by 'function' and 'functionality'.Function is how a product works. Functionality is what a product does.
