- 1What is an opcode?A binary code which represents an operation which the processor can perform.
- 2What is an operand?The binary data in an instruction on which the operation in the opcode will be applied.
- 3What is a mnemonic?A human readable world which has a one to one relationship with a machine code instruction, translated by the assembler.
- 4What is an example of a mnemonic?ADD, SUB, MUL, JMP
- 5What are address labels?A symbolic representation of a binary memory address which can be used in code to make programming easier.
- 6What are the five main registers in the CPU?PC, MAR, MDR, ACC, CIR
- 7What is the purpose of the PC?It stores the memory address of the next instruction to be executed.
- 8What is the purpose of the MAR?It stores the memory address of the instruction or data item to be fetched from memory.
- 9What is the accumulator for?Temporarily storing results from the ALU.
